Bio (Industry)Timothy Place is currently the Vice-President for Software Development at Electroptap. He is an expert in the electronic music community, having more than 10 years of experience in the field. Mr. Place is also finishing a doctorate in electronic and interactive music composition at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. He has lectured and presented, by invitation, internationally (Canada, England, South Korea, Norway, Sweden) and throughout the United States. As a software developer, his products have seen growing popularity with users in more than 20 countries.
Bio (Academic)Timothy Place is currently a doctoral fellow at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, under the direction of Jim Mobberley, Paul Rudy, and Chen Yi. His primary interest is in using digital media to expand the possibilities of instruments and composition. He serves on staff for the Impact Center at UMKC as well as being composer-in-residence for Kansas City Public Schools. Mr. Place’s music has been performed in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and throughout the United States. Performances include the 2000 Seoul International Computer Music Festival, Spring in Havana 2000, the 2000 Florida Electronic Music Festival, the 1999 International Trombone Festival, the 2000 Santa Fe International Electroacoustic Music Festival, the 1999 SEAMUS National Conference, the 2000 Kansas City Festival of Electronic Music, and the 2001 Music Without Walls? Conference in Leicester, UK.
Bio (Combined)Timothy Place is a developer of emerging technologies and a composer of innovative music that leverages those technologies. As a Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Mr. Place has been awarded for his forward-looking developments, musical compositions, and teaching. In 2003, he co-founded a company, Electrotap L.L.C., to market the results of his research and development as well as fund new engineering projects. Mr. Place serves on staff for the Intermedia/Music Production and Computer Technology (IMPACT) Center at UMKC, where he has had a significant hand in structuring the electronic music curriculum. In addition to teaching at UMKC, Mr. Place is serving in his third year as a composer-in-residence for Kansas City Public Schools. He also has been invited for lectures and residencies in the U.K., Norway, and the U.S. His music has been performed in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and throughout the United States.
